Writing Retreat -  For several years, I made the pilgrimage to a writing retreat at a convent run by the Loretto Sisters in Niagara Falls. The convent has now closed, and the retreats have sadly come to an end. The poem “cradlers of words” explores the relationship of the women who attended this retreat.

The poem imprint deals with the effect people we love can have upon us.  It won the WRAConteur poetry competition in 2003 under the title “variations of a theme”.

The poem bedridden reflects upon my mother's brave and celebratory approach to her final year of life. It is part of a series of poems that won the WRA Conteur poetry award.
